About Kevin
Kevin Berry MEd RCC
I chose to become a counsellor because I believe healing and wellness happen through a warm and empathic relationship. In my approach, I support others to feel empowered to trust themselves, to be themselves, and to feel confident that they can form meaningful, lasting relationships with others.
My professional experience includes supporting couples; supporting individuals living with disability and exploring what it means for their identity; supporting individuals who have experienced relational trauma; and supporting individuals experiencing anxiety, and depression.
I typically work with couples or with individuals on issues related to self-compassion and self-confidence, anxiety, depression, emotional awareness and regulation, interpersonal communication and relationship dynamics, and identity development.
I have a Master’s of Education in Counselling Psychology from Simon Fraser University; I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (#21323) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. I have additional training in:
-
Emotionally-Focused Therapy for individuals
-
Narrative therapy
-
Gottman Method (level 1, level 2 in progress)
Kevin's Approach
My approach to healing is collaborative and integrative–engaging in attachment-based, emotion-focused, body-based practices to explore and support you and your relationships. Together, we integrate your mind (thoughts, feelings), your body (brain, central nervous system), and your spirit (that which makes you feel most alive) so you feel empowered to live the life you want.
My clients have described me as easy to talk to – perhaps because I approach conversations with warmth, compassionate curiosity, and a dash of enthusiasm. I take a trauma-informed approach that is tailored to you and honours your strengths, abilities, and preferences. I also seek feedback regularly, to ensure how we are working is the best fit for you.
As a short-statured individual, I have had my own experiences of navigating a world not built for someone like me. Thus, as an ally to others who have faced challenges being accepted as they are, I work with people from all walks of life and provide affirmative, inclusive counselling for individuals of all genders, ethnicities, sexual orientations, range of physical (dis-)abilities, and relationship styles (e.g., monogamy, consensual nonmonogamy).
